Monster Trucks: Start your engines!

We entered a fairly large grandstand, in the Indiana State Fair, found our seats and got ready to see some E3 Spark Plug Monster Trucks. We thought it had to be done seeing as we were in America, at a state fair. First, we were introduced to the drivers and their enormous trucks!

The contenders were : Mr Stomper, Mr Chalkboard Chuck, Mr Heavy Hitter, Mr Star Marshall and Mr Lucas Oil Stabilizer.
There were also motorcycles involved in the show

Then the drivers took their positions

and the audience geared up to prepare for the show to begin.

So with the announcer encouraging the kids to say the infamous words, “Drivers, start your engines!”, the 2011 Indiana State Fair Monster Trucks show began.

The first to go was Mr Stomper,

and this made it clear to me that the aim of the contest was to drive at some pre-crushed cars and try to go over them.
Next up was Mr Chalkboard Chuck,

who unfortunately appeared to breakdown at the starting line. He then went on to clear the cars

and sneakily trundled off the track in search of repairs.
Then there was the huge Mr Heavy Hitter, who in his eagerness overshot the starting line and had to back up.

Then came Mr Star Marshall,

who nearly went over on his jump over the cars.
Lastly, there was Mr Lucas Oil Stabilizer,

who made it over the cars but I took a dislike to them as they didn’t wave to the crowd on their way back. All the others had so I took this as a sign of rudeness.
Mr Chalkboard Chuck did make a comeback later on but in the meantime the other trucks raced (started on opposite sides and had to both complete a jump). There was also crowd entertainment in the form of a random dancing man, t-shirts being launched (with what looked like a grenade launcher) into the crowd

and there was the amazing motorcyclist performing stunts such as the ‘Heart Attack Sneakograph’ and ‘The Whip’. They almost gave me a heart attack just watching them. They are either very brave or very crazy. I think they are probably a mixture.

And with that graceful dive we took our own leave and went in search of the Indy Swing Tent.
